Diabetes and Depression

In an article posted by Elizabeth Radisson the topic of diabetes and depression is discussed. I have a diabetic friend that pass away about a month after Christmas this past year and I feel it is time to address some of the issues that led to his untimely death. He was your ordinary guy that because of diabetes and depression floated around from job to job and would always struggle with finding money to manage his diabetes. He was always looking for cheap blood glucose devices, and when Medicare would not cover his diabetes testing supplies he would spiral into what he called a diabetic depression that would cause his body more harm. This is a paragraph from the article about diabetes and depression.

Patients treated for diabetes and depression often show no improvement. This is usually due to little or no change in diet and exercise improvements. These lifestyle changes can dramatically improve the symptoms of diabetes and depression. Diabetic patients that suffer from depression have twice the mortality rate of those who do not suffer from depression. The complications are numerous and include: heart disease, stroke, nerve damage, kidney and teeth and gum disease. Over 21 million Americans are noted as suffering with mostly Type 2 diabetes, directly resulting from obesity.

Whether or not you live with your diabetes by confronting the disease head on or if you fall victim to the effects and complications of diabetes. Treating diabetes is both a mental and physical struggle.
